White-tailed deer management

The Morris County Park Commission is currently responsible for the stewardship of over 18,000 acres of land. It recognizes that a controlled hunting program is the most efficent and affective way available to minimize the severe threats posed to the biodiversity of native flora and fauna by overabundant ehite-tailed deer populations. The MCPC's controlled hunts are specifically used as a population management tool and do not represent recreational hunting opportunities.

Closures

The Saturn Playground located by the Doe Meadow picnic area is closed.

NOTICE - Silas Condict County Park:

Please be advised that in May 2017, the Park Commission will begin a scheduled rehabilitation of Canty’s Lake dam at Silas Condict County Park.
To facilitate construction, the lake will be lowered during the project, which is expected to be completed in October 2017.  There will also be heavy construction in the area around the dam embankment.
Fishing, boating, and the Casino will be closed for the duration of the project.

The Park and hiking trails will be open to the public during regular park hours of operation. Hikers are advised to avoid the project area which will be protected by safety fencing.

After construction, the area will be restored and will include a new pedestrian bridge over the dam offering a scenic overlook of the lake and surrounding area.
